Cute Ideas for Camping-Inspired Nursery Rooms

If you’re looking for a special way to decorate your baby’s nursery, go camping-inspired! Camping nurseries are all the rage right now, and it’s the perfect way to add a little bit of adventure and fun to your home. From cute animals to fun nature scenes and cool patterned textiles, here are some ideas for planning a camping-inspired nursery that will be perfect for your little one.

Recently, my cousin’s daughter was expecting her first child. We decided to collaborate on her nursery design selections through my edesign online interior design process. When we started, she didn’t know the sex of her baby. I set out to create a gender-neutral backdrop in the nursery so that she could accessorize for either male or female once she knew the baby’s sex.

What my client had to say about my design services for her nursery:

“Working with Julie 1:1 was nothing short of AMAZING. We have never worked with an interior designer and wasn’t sure what to expect. Her communication was remarkable and she was so accommodating to create a design based within our budget. She also took the time to send educational videos for a few DIY ideas (hanging ceiling fans, putting up wallpaper) and took into account that we are first time home buyers and had a lot to learn! I thought I knew what I wanted, but she opened my eyes up to so many new ideas. All while making sure everything would be cohesive. I would highly recommend Julie to anyone who is looking for a transformation in their home!” - J. Pell

Camping-Inspired Nursery Design Goals

The design objective is to incorporate urban, shabby chic, and boho styles in a gender-neutral nursery that the clients can accessorize once they know the gender of the baby.

Camping-Inspired Nursery Design Challenges

The first challenge was to create a gender-neutral background with carpet, accent rug, and a mural.

The second challenge was to coordinate carpet, accent rug, paint, curtains, crib, dresser/changing table, glider rocking chair and ottoman, light fixture/ceiling fan, and wall art with a camping theme in purples and pinks, with a shabby chic, boho, and urban styles for the feminine style room.

The third challenge was to create a design satisfying a client who prefers a cozy, calm, peaceful atmosphere.

Design Rationale

The design objective is to incorporate urban, shabby chic, and boho styles in a gender-neutral nursery that the clients can accessorize once they know the gender of the baby.

To incorporate urban style we will utilize gold and bronze picture frames; to incorporate shabby chic we will utilize floral prints in muted colors if gender appropriate, white slipcovered furnishings, and vintage accessories.

And to incorporate Boho Chic evokes a sense of imagination and surprise with unexpected contrasts.

The style is not simply throwing together everything and anything, but rather relies heavily on the building blocks of design (color, pattern, texture, composition) to make the space look cohesive.

A multitude of fabrics is characteristic, whether patterned, textured, solids, or all three.

The color palette for a boy nursery will add blues and greens to the neutral foundation, while the colors for a girl nursery will add pinks and purples to the neutral foundation.

The clients wish to emphasize a camping theme that reflects their favorite vacations to Colorado.

Boy Camping-Inspired Nursery Idea

For a boy, blues can be added, and for a girl pinks and purples can be added. The boho and shabby chic styles can be brought in with items such as a rocker, and changing table, which can even be purchased as vintage items which is also environmentally friendly.

As my niece stated that she was open to wallpaper, I found a wallpaper mural that I think can be used for either a girl or boy, and it can go on any size wall.

Girl Woodland Nursery Idea

The client will want a warm grey carpet because the crib is a warm grey. I also matched the accent table by choosing one that was a warm grey as well.

A cool grey will look like you didn't match your colors correctly, and many people make this mistake between warm and cool greys when decorating with grey.

I thought a tree stump was pretty cool to go with the woodsy camping theme.

How To Decorate a Camping Or Woodland Nursery

Choose Fun Bedding Sets with Camping Themes

When shopping for baby bedding sets for your camping-style nursery, opt for designs featuring natural elements such as pine cones and tree bark prints. You can also find bed sets that feature illustrations of woodland creatures like deer and foxes alongside textured blankets in earthy colors – all of which helps to pull off that camping look without any over-the-top cheesy décor.

Add Fun Crib Sheets Featuring Outdoor Scenes

Enliven your nursery space with fun crib sheet showcasing illustrations of campfires under night skies or cabins facing wide meadows full of wildflowers.

Blankets comes in all kinds of sizes so you could even get an extra large version of one to double as a play mat when they outgrow their baby size ones!

Use a Unique Bookshelf That Mimics a Tree

Adding a unique bookshelf to a baby nursery doesn't have to be difficult.

If you're going for a camping-inspired design, why not create or purchase a bookshelf that mimics the shape of a tree?

Not only will this give your little one's space an outdoorsy vibe, but it will also add interest and dimension.

Furthermore, having the bookshelf shaped like a tree will provide more space for storage while still appearing as an attractive feature in the room.

With minimal effort and an eye-catching design, this type of neat bookshelf could be the perfect accent piece to tie together your camping-inspired nursery.

Your little one is sure to love having such a creative corner in their bedroom!

Use Camping Gear Accessories as Décor Items

Go through some old camping items from years past or hunt down secondhand gear online — then use those items as decorations. Hunt for vintage fishing poles hung in groups on the walls or place campfire lanterns on out-of-reach shelves, decked out in nostalgic hues.

This will bring personality into the space while stamping it with timeless charm!

Use Forest-Inspired Wallpaper

One of the easiest ways to turn your nursery into a camping paradise is by adding outdoor-themed wallpaper to the walls. There are wallpapers depicting trees, animals, campfires, and more which is sure to bring to life any camping escape.

Add Camping-Themed Toys

You can add lots of decorations such as play teepees, rustic log furniture, and campfire plush sets. You can also hang tents on the walls or use portable cribs in bright colors to mix it up. Look for stuffed animals wearing mini backpacks or woodsy animal characters – don’t be afraid to get creative and add your own personal touch.
